5 Free programs you probably didn’t know were offered by the NYPL

There are so many services that go underutilized and the NYPL ( New York Public Library) is one of them. In the last few years you wouldn’t believe all the amazing resources I’ve been able to access through the library from conference rooms to coding boot camps and business plan competitions. Here are 5 programs that are 100% FREE offered by the NYPL! I hope this will serve as an incentive for you to stop by your local library.

1. Project Code 
A FREE 10 week program for those who want an introduction to coding. Cohorts run in the Fall, Spring and Summer! ( I was the Fall 2017 Graduation Keynote speaker, watch the talk I gave ) 

2. TechConnect 
The New York Public Library’s TechConnect program helps people of all ages develop confidence in their computer skills and grow more comfortable in today’s digital world. TechConnect offers more than 80 technology classes at libraries throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island–all absolutely free! From learning the basics of how to use a computer to mastering essential computer business programs, there is a class for all students from beginner to advanced, including series classes for those who want more in-depth knowledge. 

3. Overdrive/Libby
Learn how to find, check out, and return e-books and audiobooks on a variety of devices, including iPad, Kindle, and Nook.

4. Lynda.com 
Lynda.com, a LinkedIn Company is an online educational site that includes over 5,700 courses (and over 180,000 videos) in popular fields like web design, web development, IT, education/instruction, media production, and business. Experts create and deliver all courses as well as provide supplemental materials like exercise files and relevant work samples.  Users will need to create accounts in order to track course progress, create playlists of potential coursework, and keep course notes. Patrons should refer to lynda’s Privacy Policy and Website Use Policy before starting.

5. New York Times Archive 1980-Present 
Full-text articles from The New York Times. **Patrons should read the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy of this resource before searching.**

6.Career Cruising 
This database collects personal information from users as part of its service. This information is stored by the vendor that creates the database and is subject to that vendor’s private policy. We encourage you to read that vendor’s private policy. The information you enter into this database is not stored by The New York Public Library. Career Cruising is a comprehensive bilingual (English and Spanish) interactive multimedia source which features profiles and information on hundreds of occupations, 2 and 4 year college and universities, and financial aid, including scholarship opportunities
