Maktub, It Is Written

On my way home after the Get Shit Done Summit, I pulled out my notebook and started writing. I have always loved writing. I have dozens of notebooks, journals, diaries, planners, post-it notes, and miscellaneous pieces of paper with thoughts, ideas, emotions scribbled all over them.

Writing was the way I spoke up for myself, my true self.

Sometimes when I speak my brain starts to pick up speed and my mouth and my mind compete for my attention. Mix that with being a very attentive listener, and sprinkle a bit of overthinker and analyzer on top, what you get is a person who becomes very quiet in intense conversations. Most people take my quietness for either agreeing with what is being said or completely ignoring what they are saying. When in actuality I am listening so that I can better process the information then respond with my true thoughts, opinions, and feelings.

I knew when I put pen to paper that my truth would pour out on the pages in front of me.

I remember I was in the car heading home from that very first GSD summit when this overwhelming feeling came over me, then the voice in my head said: “write”.

I didn’t know it at the time but what I started writing would later become the Manuscript for my book The Art of Getting Shit Done.
