Have you seen the movie The Incredibles?
If not, don’t worry, you will still understand the analogy.
In the movie, the superhero dad, Bob aka Mr.Incredible, was frustrated with hiding his superpowers and pretending to live a normal life.
One day, Bob had a really stressful day at work and upon coming home, he comes out of his car and almost falls on his son’s skateboard. To hold his balance he grabs the car and the car sinks in, then he tries to close the door, another failure, then he slams it and the glass brakes. He couldn’t catch a break! Now at his limit, Bob uses his super strength to lift the car at which point he notices a small child behind him on a tricycle. Bob slowly places the car on the ground and walks away as though nothing has happened.
The kid doesn’t move and stays in complete shock!
The next day Bob comes home once again, and still feels defeated. He comes out of the car to find the same tricycle kid just sitting in the same spot waiting.
- Bob: And what are you waiting for?
- Kid: I don’t know, something amazing I guess.
- Bob: *deep sigh* Me too kid, me too.
I first watched this movie in 2004 when I was 10 years old, then multiple times since and this part of the movie has always stood out to me.
Our mind, body, heart, and soul know when we aren’t living up to our full potential, when we are settling for less than being incredible. Your body will start attacking itself, your mind will start to rot, and you will fall out of love with your own existence when you block out your true self–your incredible self from shining through.
This last year has been HARD for everyone. We have all lost, gained, grew, and transformed in ways that we could have never imagined new businesses, new assets, higher paid positions and more.
If there’s one thing that we should have all learned, it is that you’re not normal–normal doesn’t even truly exist. You are INCREDIBLE.
Don’t wait for something amazing to happen, make something amazing happen. Embrace your incredible.
