RECRUITING, SCHEDULING, RECORDING, & EDITING,
When I had the idea to create the video series I didn’t have any guests lined up, forms created or anything other than the idea. Within a week I created a plan and started executing it. Here step by step how I did it:
- The Intake: I created a Google Form to intake the information of those who agreed to be a part of the series. I asked for their bio, website, links, and photos.
- The prompt: I typed up a short message that I could send to my prospective guests. It was about 3 sentences long but in this small paragraph I included: What the series was about, why I created it, and what I would need from them.
- The Scheduler: To make scheduling interviews simple I set a recording schedule. My recording dates were Monday’s from October 22nd – December 3rd 9am – 6pm. I created an event on my calendly with these parameters so that I could send one link to all interviewee and they can automatically select an interview time instead of us trying to cross reference our calendars through email.
- The Test Group: After my prompt was all set. I created a small list of people in my 1st and 2nd degree network who I could reach out to and ask to be a guest. I had the emails of most of these people but the ones I didn’t have emails for I slid into their social media DM’s.
- The Tools: When it came to recording I knew I needed a good camera, a tri-pod, and a good audio recorder. After doing some research I learned about the Logitech HD Pro 920 Webcam that was good for Audio and Video recording, I purchased it with Amazon prime and it was at my door in 2 days. I also purchased the Acuvar 50 Inch tri-Pod and a Ring Light + Tri-Pod Combo. ( See all items below ) I had my technology set up and ready to GO!
- The Day Of: When it was time for the interview I recorded it via my Zoom.
- The Edit: Now it was time to edit out all the bloopers and mistakes and get the video down to the 25 – 35 minute sweet spot. I am not a professional video editor nor did I have the budget to hire a video editor so I used what I had. I have Adobe Premier through my Creative Cloud subscription but I have never worked with it before and when I calculated the time it would take me to learn how to use it and use it well, I didn’t have the time to invest into learning it. The other thing I had was. Windows Movie Maker. I have been using this editor since Elementary school, this is not even an exaggeration. The editor has technically been discontinued, which means no new features will be added but the features it currently has is everything I need it to have. I spent hours listening and clipping and chopping all 15 episodes.
I am no Producer but I looked at all the tools and resources I had at my disposal and made them work in the best way possible to achieve my goal. After all, I am the Execution Strategist!
After editing the content, I handed it off to my Production and hosting team for the podcast, Gifted Sounds Network ( See Below), and they created my intro/outro audio for me using a beat that I got from Rudi Reapa Beatz ( See Below) and a soundbite that I recorded on my iPhone.
For the Web series I created an intro video through PlaceIt.Net and outro graphic using Canva.com. Then back to Windows Movie Maker I went to add the audio to the video and Graphic.
Production Team
The team behind all things podcast is , Gifted Sounds Network’s Lance and Mekesia. After I interviewed Mekesia for the series she reached out and suggested that I turn the video series into a podcast as well. I was hesitant because I know that a LOT of work goes into creating a great podcast and I didn’t want to over commit myself. After a few conversations with Mekesia and Lance they broke down the process and explained that as the production and hosting team they would handle all the inter workings of the podcast. Super excited to be working with this amazing duo.
If you have a podcast idea I would highly suggest reaching out to them and see how their services could help you launch a podcast. Visit: GiftedSounds.com
Love the inro/outro music for Doing the Most? Me too. These beats were created by my friend Rude Reapa, an aspiring Audio Engineer. Rudi creates unique audio creations for artists and creatives. I saw his work and reached out to hear some of his beats. After he sent me around 7 different beats I knew that I couldnt only choose one. I choose two different beats one for my intro and the other for my outro. If you are looking for unique beats check out www.instagram.com/Kartier_reapa/ or email Rudi directly at [email protected]
