Marketing Gone Wild: Part 2

In my first Marketing Gone Wild blog I featured marketing that I saw IRL ( in real life) on my trip to San Francisco.

In this episode of marketing gone wild, social media took the cake.

1. The Twerking Senator

Iā€™m sure this campaign caught the attention and eyes of people from EVERY political party. Senator Tiara Mack, Rhode Island State Senator D6 āœØ Rugby player šŸ‰abortion funder šŸ’šBlack & queerāœŠšŸ½šŸŒˆ ( as stated in her TikTok Bio) took to the internet bright and early on July 4th with a ā€œpromised senator thirst trapā€ as a reminder for Rhode Island Residents to ā€œVote senator Mackā€.

The internet was in an uproar in a matter of moments following this video. From folks saying ā€œYassā€ while others wanted to show their distaste for twerking on our headtops.

I, on the other hand, found this campaign PERFECT!

We know from the dawn of time ( at least the dawn of marketing time) that sex and sexualization SELLS.

Good or bad, bikinis and bootys will always get attention on the internet.

The verdict is this is a WIN for marketing gone wild.

2. Steal my spot, I steal your wife

This campaign has to be top 5 ā€œI would have never guessed thatā€ commercials I have ever seen.

Please go ahead and watch the video before reading the rest of this article.

ā€”

Now that youā€™ve watched it. I want to know, did you anticipate ANY of those turns of events in this video? ( Be Honest)

In this marketing gone wild example, sex and sexualization are again at the forefront.

Having a commercial start with a woman waking up after an apparent one night stand and ending with a Public Service Announcement to not park in handicap spots in a WILD story arc. I can only image the planning room for this campaign.

Although entertaining and attention grabbing, there is another time old trope in this commercial. Theyā€™re comparing a womanā€™s body to a parking spot. You steal my spot, I steal your wife? What if the wife isnā€™t interested? I can go down a rabbit hole here but I donā€™t think I need to.

In the end, their marketing did indeed go wild and successfully grab our attention.

3. When is it okay to have an AR-15?

This campaign. Um WOW.

No stone was left unturned in this one.

Days after another US-based mass shooting. Post-Juneteenth and July 4th. This campaign just feels like ā€œshould this be legalā€

Again please watch before you read the rest.

ā€”

The majority of us should be aware of the back and forth political and personal opinions on not only the right to bear arms BUT also the conversation around should the AR-15 be banned?

Then add the long history of racial tensions in America.
A Black man running for congress releases an AD seemingly in support of AR-15s while depicting how necessary it would be if the KKK were to storm his home.
Then as icing to his cake, his caption read ā€œMake Rifles Great againā€, which is a nod to Donald Trumpā€™s 2016 campaign slogan of ā€ Make America Great Againā€.

I havenā€™t done any research on Jerone Davison and hadnā€™t heard of him before seeing this video. So in all honesty, I donā€™t know how serious vs satiric this video is. Let me know in the comments if you know.

This is definitely marketing gone wild and serious or satire the campaign definitely caught peopleā€™s attention.
