For 7 days I got to hang out with Will Smith. He shared his life story with me while I listened, took notes on some key moments, cried, laughed, and celebrated with him.
Here are 8 moments that I felt compelled to pass on from the book:
- The difference between a task that feels impossible and a task that feels doable is merely a matter of perspective
- It’s better to die than to walk around scared
- The universe is not logical, it’s magical
- The vessel that saved your life yesterday will kill you today if you don’t let it go.
- If I don’t wanna be with me. Why the fuck would anybody else wanna be with me
- Look I’m either gonna die or I’m not. If god wants me today ain’t nothing I can do about it anyway. If I die I’m not even gonna know so the real question is. How do I wanna live?”
- Everyone is struggling. Everyone is having a hard time. Everybody is struggling, everybody is having a hard time. Life can be brutal, chaotic, confusing and excruciating. Our hearts are starving
- What life would you create if you didn’t give a fuck. If you weren’t consumed with everyone and everything else
In the end I was able to connect with the human within the legend. Often we romanticize a persons life as “goals”. We picture their lives as this perfectly written story that proves they are better and more deserving of love, grace, and greatness compared to the rest of us.
The truth is we all deserves those things, it starts with believing that we do.
