Entrepreneurship is a journey, and taking breaks along the way is required. In this episode, I talk with Tameka Vasquez about her journey as an entrepreneur and her most recent decision to go back to the corporate world for a while. Everyone talks about the freedoms that come from “being your own boss” but don’t really talk about how inconsistent that can be, how we trade 40 hour work weeks for 80 hour work weeks. Taking a break from being your own boss to make an impact in a company is sometimes looked at as “entrepreneurial failure” when in reality doing this can create more entrepreneurial opportunities for the future. About Tameka
Tameka is a New York-based marketing and business development strategist with 8+ years experience working for global technology companies, from startups to publicly traded firms, across a wide variety of industries. Her expertise spans growth strategy, marketing process and automation, lead generation, sales and partner enablement, content marketing and brand identity. She is currently working as the Associate Director of Marketing for an international artificial intelligence company, and a professor of marketing management at St. John’s University. She is also a regular guest lecturer at Baruch College, speaking on topics around innovation and civic progressiveness through tech, and has done speaking engagements on the subject matter in cities within the US, Europe, and Africa. Tameka also serves as a strategic advisor to Opus AI, a startup that is focusing on leveraging artificial intelligence to ensure fairness and increase diversity at large organizations. Tameka holds a BA in Corporate Communications from Baruch College and a MS in Information and Knowledge Strategy from Columbia University.
